Giving Into Light
is a solo performance piece by Alison Wearing, author of the internationally bestselling travel memoir Honeymoon in Purdah – an Iranian Journey.
By turns comical and deeply moving, this monologue tells a woman’s story of ‘post-partum illumination’ following the birth of her first child. Her attempts to understand this heightened perception of the world (contrasted with hilariously-rendered scenes of sleep-deprivation and fluorescent-lit church basement playgroups) lead her on an intuition-inspired journey to a village in Mexico, a place where the everyday and the fantastical converge.
